President’s Update

I am pleased to announce that the tentative agreement was approved by the Metropolitan Council last night (March 9, 2016).

Pay Adjustments:

Terry Marvin, Metropolitan Council Payroll Manager, has confirmed that back pay will be paid on March 25, 2016.

We were informed by the employer today that the performance pay raises for individuals in the performance zone will be:

Achieves Expectations – 1%
Surpasses Expectations – 1.5%
Exceptional – 2.1%

Medical and Dental Insurance Premiums:

The TMSA member’s 2016 monthly insurance premiums will be:

$19 – Distinctions III (Single)
$285 – Distinctions III (Family)
$12 – HRA (Single)
$222 – HRA (Family)
$2 – Dental (Single)
$19 – Dental (Family)

It has been pointed out to me that I may have miscommunicated earlier. The employee’s contribution to insurance premiums are for all of 2016, not March 9 and forward.  Thus, some of us may have to pay a higher premium on March 25 than we did before or after.  The chart below breaks down how much the premiums will be over the next three pay checks. This information has been confirmed with Labor Relations. Also, this is based on the assumption that the person has been in the TMSA since January 1, 2016.  If you came to the unit after January 1, 2016 the numbers would be slightly different.

  • Column “Interim Premium” is what we paid on Jan 1, Jan 15, Feb 12, Feb 26 and Mar 11.
  • Column “Negotiated Premium” is the premium per check that our members approved.
  • Column “Delta” is the difference between the two. Note that Distinctions Single is a credit.
  • Column “Amount Member Owes” is the Delta times five pay periods.
  • Column “March 25 Premium” is how much your premium will be on March 25. This is the Negotiated Rate plus the amount owed.
  • Column “April 8 Premium” will be the premium for the rest of the 2016.

Many of our members will want to adjust their deferred compensation contribution so that their back pay goes into deferred compensation. If you intend to adjust your deferred compensation please ensure that you take into account the additional insurance premium so that you are not surprised on the March 25 paycheck.
